Hazelnut Dip with Sugar Pretzels

Are you ready for the easiest morning tea ever…….hazelnut dip with sugar pretzels?

Ok, so please don’t judge me…..I went ahead and bought these sugar pretzels and the reason for this is that Farro’s here in Auckland, NZ already have them in store, freshly baked and ready to go!

Where did I get the idea to make hazelnut dip and sugar pretzels?

I got this amazing idea from Valerie Bertinelli’s cooking show. Do you remember her from back in the day when she was on that TV show called “One day at a time”, anyway she now has a cooking show, and its one of the best cooking shows I’ve ever seen.

One day I was watching her show and she was making pretzels by hand and dipping them in hazel nut spread, so that’s where I came up with an easier idea to make hazelnut dip with store bought sugar pretzels!

So thats exactly what I did! Cheating you might call it, I call it thinking smartly hehehe! One of my motto’s in life and in the kitchen is that food and preparation can be quick and easy, however it doesn’t always turn out like that, but that’s the goal I always work towards.

Hazelnut dip and sugar pretzels for Morning Tea or Afternoon Tea?

I choose morning tea!! Hubby and I needed a treat and why not treat ourselves as we are in lockdown after all…..and we deserve treats!!

Now, I don’t want to make your taste buds go too crazy but this hazelnut dip and sugar pretzels are delightful! They have the most perfect balance of sugar and cinnamon and the pretzel is exactly as it should be, soft on the inside and perfectly textured on the out. They have just the right amount of softness and sugar that you can’t put them down (well I couldn’t anyway!)

So without further ado here they are……hazelnut dip with store bought sugar pretzels!

My tips and tricks

As you probably know by now that this recipe is very easy, but nevertheless let me give you a few things to ensure everything turns out perfectly.

1. Sugar Pretzels

  • Ok, so I didn’t make my own sugar pretzels. Sometimes and this could be conceived as lazy, but sometimes I just want EASY and QUICK! And so that’s what I did, I purchased these yummy pretzels from our local delicatessen Farro’s and didn’t feel guilty one bit!

2. Hazelnut Dip

  • My go to base for this dip is Nutella. However there are other great brands but that’s the one my Hubby picked from the supermarket, because he’s a darling and does all the grocery shopping for me!

3. Cream

  • I purchased your usual pouring cream that you would normally turn into whipped cream (but don’t whip it). If you want a more liquid consistency add more cream 1 tablespoon at a time.

4. Variations

  • Here are some variations I thought could be useful? Dip pastries, croissants, donuts, fresh fruit or short bread cookies for something a little fancy for your guest, or make it into a platter for a party!

5. Serving advice

  • Serve these with either a cup of your favourite tea or in our case with a hot cup of coffee from our Breville Coffee Machine.

Then go and sit somewhere comfortable and get dipping! Believe me you’ll be in heaven!
